Monument record TQ 77 NW 1053 - Site of a Sheepfold, by Cliffe Fleet, Cliffe Marshes

The site of a 19th - 20th century sheep fold occupying a small island approximately 40m x 45m surrounded on all sides by water-filled creeks immediately adjacent to Cliffe Fleet at TQ 7394 7875. The site is recorded on historic (19th century) Ordnance Survey maps as a sheepfold, and is recorded as a sheep wash on the most recent Ordnance Survey maps. Aerial photographs and current maps show the site with a cluster of buildings. The island is linked to two adjacent fields by small causeways or bridges to the south-west and south. This site was recorded from a combination of RAF aerial photographs and maps during the course of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (4-7)
