Summary

Built in 1882 as the terminal point for the Hundred of Hoo Railway, Port Victoria Railway Landing Pier was extensively damaged by an explosion on board a naval minelayer in May 1915. It was partially replaced by the Port Victoria Seaplane Slipway (see TQ 87 SE 1056).

Full Description

Port Victoria Railway Landing Pier, shown on a chart of 1910 (1).

Built in 1882 as the terminal point for the Hundred of Hoo Railway, the Pier was extensively damaged by an explosion on board a naval minelayer in May 1915. It was partially replaced by the Port Victoria Seaplane Slipway (TQ 87 SE 1056). [2].

Mentioned in Isle of Grain Historic Area Assessment conducted by English Heritage in 2014. "The pier was used by Queen Victoria to embark and disembark onto the royal yacht". Partially demolished in 1916. "Remnants of the Port Victoria pier, in the form of wooden posts in the river, may survive" (3).
