Built in 1882 as the terminal point for the Hundred of Hoo Railway, the Pier was extensively damaged by an explosion on board a naval minelayer in May 1915. It was partially replaced by the Port Victoria Seaplane Slipway (TQ 87 SE 1056). [2].
