Monument record TQ 87 SW 1032 - A post medieval enclosure, probably a sheep fold can be seen on the 1870 Ordnance Survey map.

Summary

A post medieval enclosure, probably a sheep fold can be seen on the 1870 Ordnance Survey map. This site consisted of a circular mound circa 19m across positioned within an approximately square area defined by a ditch. The break in the ditch at the south west corner is aligned with a path that connected this sheep fold with a causeway on Stoke Saltings (see NMR 1538671). This site had bee destroyed by 1896 through the digging away of the saltings (the mud was used in the manufacture of Portland cement). This feature was identified from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
