Monument record TQ 87 SW 1079 - An incomplete circular earthwork enclosure is depicted on the 1896 Ordnance Survey map

Summary

An incomplete circular earthwork enclosure is depicted on the 1896 Ordnance Survey map. This earthwork was situated on saltings on the western end of Oakham Ness and may have been the remains of a post medieval livestock enclosure. If an enclosure it was out of use by 1896 as the interior was filled with water and connected to a water channel on the saltings. The site is now beneath Oakham Ness Jetty. This site was identified as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
