Full Description
R. B. Site. Building layers oyster shell, burnt layers etc., Samian, pottery traces. Causeway. Material visible in disintegrating bank. Under high water mark. Visible at low tide. Mrs. Gordon, Falkners Road, Hadlow. (391). [TQ88066967] (1) No evidence of Roman material was seen in the area indicated. The 'building layers' comprise modern brick and roof slates from the adjacent building, now ruined. The oyster shells, which are stratified above the building debris, are clearly from an oystery which formerly existed here. (2). Additional bibliographies (3-5).
