Full Description

In 1949 a rubbish pit exposed in the cliff face nearby at `B' TR 22346923, was excavated by F. Jenkins who found among the apparently late 2nd/early 3rd century pottery and building debris infilling the fragments of a Romano-Gaulish clay cult figurine. (b)

The pits were destroyed by coastal erosion in 1953; all the finds including the figurine have been presented to the Royal Museum, Canterbury (1). Additional bibliography (2-5) For site in context with others in inter-tidal zone, see (6).

A desk-based assessment of a nearby site also described finds of pits, a hearth, a cremation burial, and twelve Romano-British wells (two of which contained human skeletons) to the west of the fort and on the foreshore. (7)
