Full Description
Tram depot associated with the Sheerness Electric Power Station built by the Sheerness and District Electric Power and Traction Co in 1902-3. The depot was connected to the tram tracks on Halfway Road by a branch line entering the depot on the N side of Power Station Road. The depot could accomodate 12 cars and featured workshops , a paint shop and offices. The depot was centred at TQ 9315 7345. A single range survives on the road side (poss former workshops) and part of the tram shed is incorporated into the present catering supplies warehouse on the site. The power station (at TQ 9315 7345) was situated immediately to the SE of this. It supplied domestic and industrial users at 460v DC by overhead transmission and tramway power at 550v DC. 3 Brush generators driven by 3 Browett and Lindley engines provided the tram power and there were timber cooling towers. The trams stopped running in 1917 and the depot became a bus depot. (1-2) Photograph. (3)
