Full Description

Two rows of square markings visible on early 1940s aerial photography on the Milner Road [1]. The markings appear to be painted onto the road and are no longer visible on 1965 OS aerial photographs of the area [2]. These have been interpreted as possibly representing markings or a template for laying out a roadblock. Milner Road bypasses White Mill Bridge to the north and similar markings are also visible on this bridge (MWX43044) implying that this crossing of the river was heavily defended.

Similar markings are also visible on early 1940s aerial photographs on the road south of Fordwich Bridge (MWX43034).

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [3].
