Full Description

Two short lengths of slit trenches are visible in the field immediately west of Chislet Colliery on 1940s aerial photography [1]. The slit-trenches probably represent firing or lookout positions and appear to have been infilled following WWII; they are not visible on 1980s RCHME oblique aerial photographs of the same area [2]. Both trenches are about 10m in length and follow a zigzag course, they are protected by banking on each side.

These are one of several WWII defensive features that were clustered around the colliery and the adjacent stretches of road and river (MWX43081, MWX43082, MWX43084, Mke42800).

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [3].
