Full Description

WWII structural gun pit or possible spigot mortar emplacement located seaward of Prince Edward's Promenade, Ramsgate, visible on military aerial photographs taken in May 1942 [1].

The gun pit/spigot mortar emplacement comprises a curvilinear bank with a defended entrance around a circular pit in which the gun would be placed. It measures 7.4m by 5.2m, and is first visible and has been mapped from aerial photographs taken in May 1942 [1], and is gone by April 1946 [2].

This feature possibly replaces the two earlier gun pits to the west that are no longer visible on the 1942 photos (MWX43126).
