Full Description
Two WWII circular gun pits located seaward of Prince Edward's Promenade, Ramsgate, visible on military aerial photographs.
The gun pits are located together around 45m to the south of the building. Their internal diameters are 2.5m and 2.3m and appear to have been constructed using sandbags.
These features are first visible in February 1941 [1] and have been removed by May 1942 [2].
These features are possibly replaced by a later gun pit to the east that is only visible from 1942 (MWX43124).
A Second World War gun emplacement is visible as earthworks and structures on historic aerial photographs (RAF/26J/BR267 12 22-FEB-1941). The emplacement id formed by gun pits and is enclosed by a barbed wire entanglement. The feature has been demolished on the latest EARTH.GOOGLE.COM 03-2022 ACCESSED 27-02-2024. The features were re-mapped as part of the Thanet Landscape Mapping Project. (3-4)
