Full Description

WWII defensive features comprising a slit trench and gun pit enclosed with barbed wire, located west of Cliffsend, Pegwell Bay, and visible on military aerial photographs.

The circular gun pit appears to be constructed using sandbags and has an internal diameter of around 3m. Less than 20m to the east is a length of slit trenching extending E-W and measuring 31m. These two features are surrounded on the southern and eastern sides by barbed wire and on the remaining two sides by an already existing fence.

This small military site was first visible on photographs taken in January 1946 [1] so must have been constructed some time after May 1942. The features are gone by April 1950 [2].
