Full Description
WWII road block comprising several rows of anti-tank blocks across Ebbsfleet Lane (prior to its straightening), Pegwell Bay and visible from military aerial photographs.
The blocks situated across the road are placed in three groups of two lines, and comprise around five blocks at the most. Extending around 30m SW from the road into the adjacent field (Minster Marshes) are five more rows of blocks - these could either be temporarily stored here, or they are strategically blocking the route across the field to avoid the road block.
The blocks are first visible on photographs taken in May 1942 [1] and have been mapped from this source. They are still present in April 1944 [2], but by January 1946 [3] the road has been cleared of the blocks however they still remain in the adjacent field. This implies that their function was not storage but strategic defense.
The feature is not visible by March 2003 [4].
