Full Description
Eight WWII bomb craters; five of which have been dropped in a single bombing event forming a line of craters. These features are located on Prince's Golf Links, Sandwich Bay, and are visible in military aerial photographs taken in 1945 [1].
Three closely associated craters to the east have diameters that measure between 4m and 5.6m, with upcast apparent around two of them. The remaining five craters extend in a line over 300m orientated NW-SE, and their diameters measure between 3.4m and 8.9m; all of which are surrounded by a ring of upcast.
The craters are first visible in January 1945 [1] and were mapped from this series. They are still visible on military photographs taken in April 1950 [2], however there is no evidence of the craters by June 1980 [3].
The position of the craters may be slightly inaccurate due to difficulties rectifying the photographs.
There are only seven craters highlighted.
