Full Description
Freshly laid minefield on beach at Sandwich Bay, mapped from military aerial photographs taken in January 1942 [1]. The minefield runs for almost 1km along the beach and comprises four rows of mines extending 17m across. A length of barbed wire is also visible running along the seaward side of the minefield. The minefield was only visible on this run of photographs since it had been recently laid, but may have been subsequently buried and therefore invisible on later runs. The barbed wire has been removed by January 1946 [2].
