Full Description
Two hulks located on the eastern shore of the River Stour within intertidal muds, and mapped from military aerial photographs. The two vessels measure 23m by 6.8m and 22m by 5m and are orientated NW(bow)-SE(stern) and WNW-ESE. They are first visible in their entirety and have been mapped from photographs taken in September 1941 [1]. By April 2007 [2], the intertidal muds are much higher and only the gunnels are apparent. These hulks may have been deliberately deposited due to their location within an already present inlet that is close to the flood defence embankment and would help to prevent further coastal erosion. A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
