Full Description

Three WWII military structures are visible located behind a length of barbed wire running 180m along the beach of Sandwich Bay. The structures include a hexagonal pillbox (6m in length), an irregular structure (7.5m by 6m), and a rectangular structure (6m by 5.5m).

These features were first visible and have been mapped from military aerial photographs taken in August 1941 [1]. The barbed wire has been removed by September 1946 [2] whereas the structures are still apparent, until June 1980 [3] when they are no longer visible.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
