Full Description
Thirteen nissen huts and the foundations of a further six visible on aerial photography taken in February 1946 [1, 2], located in Kingsdown. All the extant huts were visible only as foundations on aerial photographs taken in April 1946 [3]; and those which were visible as foundations in February were further degraded as of April. There were two pathways running alongside the huts. These huts were on average 10m x 7m in plan and were laid out mainly in pairs in a linear fashion and the total site spanned 440m x 70m. These features were only visible as nine hardstandings in 1980 [4] the hardstandings of four huts were visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [5].
The huts lay alongside the site of a telegraph station (MKE6661 and NMR467439) and were likely functionally linked to the station.
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
