Full Description

WWII craters possibly created through practice detonation of mines, visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [1], located in Kingsdown. These craters showed less upcast than bomb craters and were smaller, ranging between 1m and 7m in diameter. In total the extent of the site measured 470m x 310m. The features were not visible on aerial photography taken in 1978 [2]. These features lay 190m SW from two areas of mines (MWX43501) and 910m SSW from practice trenches (MWX43505), thus it is possible that these craters were the result of training activities.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
