Full Description
WWII gun emplacement visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [1], located in St Margaret’s at Cliffe. The banked feature was 7m in diameter with walls 1.5 – 2.5m thick. The emplacement was located 4m from the cliff edge. This site was still visible on aerial photographs taken in 1949 and 1950 [2, 3]. It was not visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [4] as the cliff had eroded.
St Margaret’s Bay Coastal Battery (MWX43502) was located 160m SW of this feature. This emplacement likely formed part of the defences for the larger site.
A transcription of the feature recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
