Full Description

Five discrete areas of WWII anti-tank cubes are visible situated on the seafront in north Deal. The length of the blocks are 39m, 110m, 30m, 20m, and 31m, covering a total length of 410m. These areas comprise between four and five rows of blocks. From oblique photos [1], the blocks appear to be fairly small and may be 'pimples' rather than the larger 'cubes'.

The blocks have been mapped from military aerial photographs taken in August 1941 [2] and are no longer visible by April 1950 [3]. The blocks may be positioned at particularly vulnerable stretches of the coastline or are protecting strategically important buildings.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
