Full Description

A small WWII military site located on the coast at Deal, comprising a sub-circular machine gun emplacement with central pintle linked to the road vis a trackway, a small circular gun pit to the north and south, and a rectangular structure to the south.

The sub-circular machine gun emplacement is at the centre of this military site and has an internal diameter of 8m, surrounded by a 0.8m thick structure, and the central pintle has a diameter of 1.3m. The gun pit to the north has an internal diamter of 2.1m and the southern one, which is slightly more oval, has an internal diameter of between 2.1m and 3m. The rectangular structure measures 5.4m by 3.7m and probably stored ammunition for the gun emplacement.

These features are first visible in February 1941 [1] and have been mapped from photographs taken in August 1941 [2]. Apart from the structure, which is no longer visible by Feruary 1946 [3], the remaining features are removed by August 1943 [4].
