Monument record MWX43531 - WWII earthen banking, Dover
Summary
WWII blast protection banking surrounding four storage tanks, approximately 400 m east of Dover Castle. These semi-circular banks were between 70-80 m in length and 5 m thick. They are visible on aerial photography dated to 1945. Ordance Survey mapping from 1957-1959 shows banking between the four tanks although the blast protection is not shown. The four tanks have been removed by 1962 although the banking is partially visible. A major road development subsequently altered the landscape and no above ground remains are visible as of 2001.
