Full Description
Cropmarks of between prehistoric and post-medieval period and of unknown function visible on aerial photography taken in 1976 [1], also on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [2] and partially on aerial photographs taken in 1949 [3], located in St Margaret’s at Cliffe. These features were located in three fields and spanned an area 320m x 100m. The features appeared as lighter areas in the crop, so likely represent levelled banked earthworks.
Within this area of cropmarks was located a ring ditch, which is recorded as MKE6936 and NMR467766. Another ring ditch lay 400m NE of this site (MKE6935). It was also just N of Wanstone Battery (MKe17934), Wanstone HAA Battery (MKe17935) and S of an area of bomb craters (MWX43569).
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
