Summary

WWII slit trenches visible in 1942 and 1945, located in Dover. One main section of trenching was seen, with an additional four small trenches. The main section of trench was crenulated with flanking banks along some of its length. Parts of the ditches were still visible in 2007.

Full Description

WWII slit trenches visible on aerial photography taken in 1942 and 1945 [1 and 2], located in Dover. One main section of trenching was seen, with an additional four small trenches; the site as a whole measured 250m x 90m at its maximum extent. The main section of trench was crenulated with flanking banks along some of its length. Parts of the ditches were still visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [3].

The trenches were located just SE of a radar station (MKE9024), were NE of an area of air raid shelters (MWX43538) and close to bomb craters (MWX43539). Slit trenches (MWX43578) were seen to the SE of this site.
