Summary

WWII possible gun position or shelter visible in 1942 and 1945, located in Dover. This site lay 50m W of the North Centre Bastion of Western Heights (MKE7019 and NMR 468101) midway down the slope. The feature was no longer visible in 2003 when the site was under grassland.

Full Description

WWII possible gun position or shelter visible on aerial photography taken in 1942 and 1945 [1 and 2], located in Dover. This site measuring 14m x 10m lay 50m W of the North Centre Bastion of Western Heights (MKE7019 and NMR 468101) midway down the slope. It was banked with two roughly circular ditched features, which may represent a defensive position, or an entrance. The feature was no longer visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [3] when the site was under grassland.

This site lay in an area of WWII features, alongside was one potential small barrage balloon site (MWX43606), a military building (MWX43605) and two large cut features (MWX43602 and MWX43604).
