WWII barbed wire obstructions visible on aerial photography taken in 1941, 1942, 1945 and 1946 [1 to 7], located in Dover. These entanglements encircled the outer defences of the W side of Western Heights (MKE7019 and NMR 468101). As Western Heights is a large site which has already been mapped it has been excluded from the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey; therefore the full extent of the barbed wire was not mapped.

This wire spanned an area 800m x 1000m at maximum dimensions. The obstruction surrounded not only the Western Heights, but the Citadel Battery (Mke41972), a variety of military earthworks (MWX43465) (MWX43623) and bomb craters (MWX43596) (MWX43593). These features were not visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [8 and 9].
