Full Description
Banked earthworks, possibly dating to WWII, visible on aerial photographs taken in 1945 and 1946 [1 and 2], located in Worth. These four extant banks were visible as two circular mounds, one of which was encircled by two curvilinear ditches – one to the N, one to the S. They spanned an area measuring 25 x 12m at maximum dimensions. The circular mounds were roughly 5.5m in diameter and the diameter of the two enclosing banks was 11.5 to 14m. These features may have been created for use during WWII, as they were not noted on 1938 historic OS mapping [3]; however they may also represent small haystack stances of an earlier date. These features were not visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [4].
Located 100m to the N was another area of banked earthworks (MWX43710).
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
