Full Description
Observation post of a 'double size'. E of Folkestone, above East Wear Bay. (1) A Second World War observation post and associated military buildings are visible as buildings on aerial photographs taken in 1945. The site comprises three observation posts, 7 Nissen huts, probably barracks and two further military buildings. The site is surrounded by barbed wire obstruction. One observation post is surrounded by a berm. The site as a whole is centred on TR 2490 3826. Only two observations posts and some hard standings are still extant on aerial photographs taken in 1983. The hard standings have been removed on aerial photographs taken in 2007, though some of the site is still visible as cropmarks. The extant observation posts are at TR 2485 3827 and TR 2495 3827. The removed observation post was at TR 2489 3823. A probably associated domestic site is located 35 metres to the north west (1533047). This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (2-3).
