Full Description

A Second World War pillbox is visible as a building on aerial photographs taken in 1946, though it has been demolished on aerial photographs taken in 1966. The site is on the eastern side of Samphire Hoe. The site is centred on TR 29670 39293 and measures 5.5 metres square. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2). The Defence of Britain project recorded two pillboxes on Samphire Hoe, but it is not clear which on this is. This record may be a duplicate of NMR: 1423504. (1-2).
