Monument record TR 13 SE 289 - Second World War pillbox, east end of the Royal military canal

Pillbox [shown on German map of defences in East Kent]. Pillbox, which was close to the sea end of the canal. 'Many years ago' the canal wall at this point was rebuilt and the pillbox was destroyed, but the concrete rubble was left where it can be seen today amongst heavy undergrowth. Pillbox [Sector 4]. Cassini ref 625529. At E end of Royal Military Canal, W of Sandgate. (1) The Type 24 pillbox referred to above (Source 1) was visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 and mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP. The pillbox is located at the east of the canal at TR 18741 34927. (2-3)
