Monument record MWX51430 - Lydden Spout Rifle Range

Summary

A Twentieth Century rifle range is visible as a series of earthworks and structures on aerial photographs, and on Ordnance Survey maps. The range originally had rifle butts at ranges of 100 to 600 yards from the target. Only the most southerly of these butts remains, and the large berm behind the targets was moved further back between 1946 and 1966, as seen on aerial photographs. The extent of this site has been defined from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2).
