A Twentieth Century firing range is visible as a series of earthworks and structures on aerial photographs, and on Ordnance Survey maps. At its full extent, the site was centred on TR 2801 3898 and measures 600 metres NE-SW. The range measures 143 metres wide, and originally had rifle butts at ranges of 100 to 600 yards from the target. Only the most southerly of these butts remains, and the large berm behind the targets was moved further back between 1946 and 1966, as seen on aerial photographs. The target store building was located at TR 27773 38965. The extent of this site has been defined from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (1-2).
