Full Description

A large Second World War bomb crater is visible on aerial photographs of 1941 as a hollow in a field between St Marys Bay and High Knock. This feature has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project. The bomb crater is centred at TR 0944 2859, and measures approximately 13m in diameter. It has a four metre wide banked rim around the edge of the perfectly circular crater. It is thought this may be a result of upcast soil from the explosion. By the time of the vertical aerial photograph of 1946; the crater had been filled-in and the banked rim levelled. They were visible as light soilmarks (1-2).
