Full Description
A possible WWII blast shelter is visible on vertical aerial photographs of 1946 as an open-topped banked rectilinear earthwork between Lade and Greatstone-on-Sea. There is no sign of this structure on the vertical aerial photographs of 1959. This feature has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project. This possible WWII blast shelter is centred at TR 0822 2146, between Leonard Road and the Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway (Monument Number 1357333). It consists of an open-topped rectilinear banked structure measuring approximately nine metres SSE to NNW and seven metres WSW to ENE. The protected overlapping entrance is on the western (inland) side. By the time of the vertical aerial photographs of 1959; no trace of this structure remains (1-2).
