Full Description

The Second World War military features are centred at TR 0430 1713, and extend across an area measuring approximately 420m east to west and 320m north to south. A single line of barbed wire partially encloses the pre-war row of coastguard cottages. A further irregular stretch of barbed wire lies just to the north-west. This barbed wire appears to be intended to protect a small network of slit trenches centred at TR 020 1725. To the south of the Coastguard Lookout, a coastal battery is located at a break in the anti-invasion beach scaffolding (Monument Number 1539783). The battery structure, centred at TR 0435 1697, had been concealed and protected by having shingle banked-up over the top of it. To the north-east, at TR 0452 1710, two possible gun emplacements are visible as mounds with holes in their centres. By the time of the next available vertical aerial photograph of 1958; all these Second World War defensive military features had been removed, along with the pre-war coastguard cottages (1-3).
