Monument record 465881 - East Wear Battery

Summary

Dated to 1798, it had 4 x 24 pounder and 1 x 18 pounder guns. It was removed in 1803 because, at 120 feet above sea level, it could not cover the beaches effectively. The available aerial photographs which cover this area have been examined as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2), and there was no visible sign of the site at this location.
