Monument record 1417089 - HOUGHAM BATTERY

Summary

Second World War reinforced concrete variant of the common Dover-type square pillbox (brick-shuttered), with overhanging roof slab and 1 embrasure per side. Pillbox of non-standard design for the area, having a smaller roof size and additional structure built against its side. At the edge of the Hougham Battery site, at top of a bank overlooking the new A20 road. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2).
