Full Description
Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery near Baronet Bridge, deployed here on 30th July 1944. It was armed with four mobile 90mm guns, and was manned by 125 Battalion of the USAAF. This formed part of the Littlestone Section of American Anti Aircraft Mobile Battalion Heavy Anti Aircraft Artillery. (1) The Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and has been mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment NMP. The cropmarks define the location of the four guns centred at TR 1196 3162 with possible cropmarks of tents, the battalion accommodation, arranged in parallel rows at TR 1183 3168. (2)
