Full Description
Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery near Haquelands Farm, deployed here on 30th July 1944. It was armed with four mobile 90mm guns, and was manned by 124 Battalion of the USAAF. It was redeployed to TR106412 on 23rd August 1944. This formed part of the Littlestone Section of American Anti Aircraft Mobile Battalion Heavy Anti Aircraft Artillery. (1) The Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery referred to above (Source 1) was not visible on the available aerial photographs taken in 1946 at the given location, but cropmarks of four gun sites are visible on the aerial photographs 425meters to the southwest at TR 10839 30956. This is likely to be the battery site referred to above (Source 1). The cropmarks have been mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment NMP. (2)
