Monument record 1485931 - ST MARY'S BAY COASTAL BATTERY
Summary
The Second World War New Romney Coastal Battery has been noted in documentary sources as occupying this location during 1940. It is thought it was later replaced by the St Marys Bay Coastal Battery (Monument Number 1485888) in 1942. This area was surveyed as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project; and structures which are thought to have comprised a coastal battery were recorded as the later St Marys Bay battery as they were visible on vertical aerial photographs of 1942. Structures which may have formed part of the earlier coastal battery were not identifiable on the historic aerial photographs.
