Full Description
Site of a heavy anti aircraft (Diver) battery at Hythe. It was armed with four 90mm mobile guns. It formed part of the Dover Diver Section from 2nd August 1944, when it was manned by the 134 American Mobile Anti Aircraft Battalion. (1) The battery referred to above (Source 1) was not visible on the available aerial photographs taken immediately after the war at the given location where features would have been expected to show on the ground. Either the battery made use of the Princess Parade and promenade or the National Grid Reference is inaccurate. The photographs do however, show cropmark features of a Diver Battery to the north of Seabrook at TR 1824 3589. The photographs were viewed as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP. (2-3)
