Monument record 1533050 - The site of two light mineral railways are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, taken in the 1940s

Summary

The site of two light mineral railways are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, taken in the 1940s. The two railways are located west of Palmarsh, Hythe, within the now expanded Nickolls Quarry workings. The railways were not connected to any main line railway so were probably just used to transport quarry material or products on and off the site. The mineral railways extend from the quarry workings at TR 1320 3291 to TR 1345 3333, where they appear to stop, but do join with a small trackway, which leads to Dymchurch Road.
