Full Description
Tile and pottery kilns found on the south side of the field. (1)
In 1993 a watching brief was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust on the fields to the east of Canterbury Hill and St Stephens Hill, Tyler Hill. The watching brief exposed an area of pegtiles interpreted as a plough damaged pegtile lined drainage gully running from a tile kiln (not located) to the east to a roadside ditch that is no longer in existence. Under the tiles were ashy patches and fragments of underfired medieaval pottery. The pottery found underfired was mostly cooking pots, jugs, bowls and a small complete pot. A second ditch 2.5m long was found 6 m south again dating from the medieval period. (2)
