Monument record TQ 57 SW 241 - Chalk Pit, Dartford
Summary
Small linear chalk quarry excavated during the later 19th century to supply the former Dartford Cement Works to the west (TQ 57 NW 98). The site remained in use at least until the 1930s. The cement works were demolished (unclear when) and the quarry partially back filled when the site was redeveloped as a large industrial complex current occupied by pharmaceutical giant Glaxo-Smith-Kline. The area of the quarry has been re-landscaped and is currently used as a car park. Access to the area was not possible.
