Monument record TQ 67 SW 236 - Chalk Pit (South of Galley Hill Road)
Summary
Chalk quarry to the south of Galley Hill Road and north of the railway line opened and in use supplying the Britannia Cement Works, immediately to the north-east by last quarter of the 19th century. The quarry appears to be running down by the 1920s with more extraction to the south and redundant by the 1930s, when it is re-landscaped as a sports ground. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
