Full Description
Excavation of the remains of a building found during evaluation work at Ingress Abbey [TQ 57 NE 93] revealed the foundations of a rectangular brick built structure. A concrete strip ran along the centre of the floor. Two small niches were revealed in the centre of the surviving north and south walls, perhaps for roof supports or a partition wall. Identified in the report as a model farm building, it does not appear on any historic maps of the site [1]. The Model Farm [TQ 57 NE 104] was constructed under James Harmer by 1841 and consisted of a farmhouse, dairy and other ancillary buildings. None of the buildings were extant by 1999. They were probably knocked down during work on the Paper Mills [TQ 57 NE 95] [2].
