Full Description
Site of a barge yard operated by W.G.Gill and Sons from the mid 1850s. There was a slipway and sheds associated with the yard where barges and yatchs were built. The steamboat 'Lady of Lorne' was constructed here. The yard was latterly used for ship repair by Doust's ship repair. There is a possibility that this was also the site of an 18th century yard which built small warships.
Site cleared for student accommodation for Art College.
