Site of cement works opened in 1914 by E J and W Goldsmith, barge owners. The works had one rotary kiln.By 1927 the works had been taken over by the Horne Group which traded under the Red Triangle brand. The works were modernised in 1927, an aerial photograph of 1930 shows two rotary kilns in operation.Chalk was quarried from a pit to the south of the Lower Rainham Road, and connected by a short tramway, passing under a bridge. The wharf to the west was developed as the cement dock with store houses erected around it on the east and north sides. The site has been cleared to ground level, and the works site has become a nature reserve. The footprint of silos and other buildings can be traced with difficulty on the main works site, and of the store houses on the wharf.The wharf was in use in the 1860s serving a brick works to the south of the Lower Rainham Road (O.S 1st edition), and in the early 1900 was used to ship chalk from the quarry, probably to the Queenborough cement works (O.S. 3rd edition).
