Full Description

In 2005 a building survey was carried out at the Malling School in advance of the planned reconstruction of the school.

The Malling School was founded in c. 1961 in response to the rapid expansion in the local population. In 1961, when the school appears on an aerial photograph, the school buildings and playing fields were in the lower part of the site while the area of the present playing fields was still laid out as parkland. The building appears to be influenced by the important British architects Peter and Alsion Smithson. This can be seen in the expanses of glass, the exposed steel frames and possibly the water tank.(1)
