Title A228 Improvements. Hoo, Isle of Grain. Archaeological Field Walking and Geophysical Survey (Stage 3).

Abstract/Summary

This report presents the results of archaeological fieldwalking and geophysical survey of the proposed c 3.5km stretch of improvements to the A228, near Hoo on the Isle of Grain. Only five of the seventeen fields crossed by the road were suitable for artefact retrieval. The distribution of artefacts revealed five areas of late post medieval and early modern manuring activity. The majority of the route was subject to recorded magnetometer surveying, which suggested four areas of magnetic activity. The results were graded for their archaeological potential; the majority of the 'sites' identified were considered to be of low potential. The report includes an assessment of impact and makes recommendations for further work.
